Human Rights Commission invites residents to fair housing workshops

April marks National Fair Housing Month, and to ensure residents are aware of their rights as renters, homeowners and landlords, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission is hosting Fair Housing Workshops.

At the April 8 Hopkinsville City Council meeting, Mayor J.R. Knight read a proclamation recognizing Fair Housing Month, and Commission Executive Director Raychel Farmer says she has been focused on promoting fair housing laws during the month.

To inform residents of their housing rights, Farmer is inviting the community to workshops in Hopkinsville and Oak Grove. The Hopkinsville workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office and the Oak Grove workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Valor Hall.

Those interested can register by filling out a Google form available on the commission’s Facebook page.

Along with discussing basic housing laws, Farmer says local government officials, realtors and members of Community and Development Services will be in attendance to discuss housing improvement efforts, how to find and purchase a home and much more.

The workshop is free to attend and breakfast and lunch will be provided.
