Tigers’ bats hot in the cold against Northeast

The cold front moved in, but the Hopkinsville High School baseball team’s bats remained hot.

The Tigers had 14 hits and rolled to a 14-4, five-inning win over visiting Clarksville Northeast on Thursday night.

Hoptown (5-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and after Northeast pushed across three runs in the top of the second, the Tigers increased their lead back to 8-3 after two innings.

Hopkinsville added two more runs in the third and another in the fourth as it extended its advantage to 11-3.

It was more than enough support for Andrew Mayes, who picked up the pitching win, going 4 2/3 innings and striking out four.

Mayes also had a good day at the plate with a pair of hits and 2 RBI. Griffen Meacham also had two hits and a pair of RBI.

Jayden Kellum knocked in three runs on the day.

Joshua Embrey had a single and a double and Gavin Powell also had a pair of hits to lead the Tigers, who are scheduled to go to Northeast today.
