HCA’s McGowan resigns as AD, basketball coach

Heritage Christian Academy Athletics Director and boys’ basketball coach Matt McGowan resigned Friday afternoon.

McGowan told WHOP radio that he has taken a position at Cornerstone Christian in Shelbyville, as athletics director, boys’ basketball coach, and boys’ soccer coach.

“I’m thankful to Mrs. (Linda) Garris for bringing me on at HCA and for Mr. (John) Walsh allowing me to serve as athletic director for the past three years,” McGowan said. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the HCA family. My wife and I will miss all of the relationships we’ve made over the past several years. Go Warriors!”

McGowan coached at HCA for eight years. He started in 2017 and coached the Lady Warriors’ basketball team from 2017-21. He became the boys’ basketball coach in 2018 and coached through the 2024-25 season.

McGowan was an integral part of pushing HCA to joining the KHSAA. The Lady Warriors’ volleyball team won the school’s first Region 2 championship last fall.

McGowan also coached two of the top scorers in program history in Jason Leek and Carlos Robles.
