As the 2024-2025 school year is coming to an end, current high school seniors are looking to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for financial support.
Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell recently announced the recipients of the 2025 Kentucky High School Athletic Association-Kentucky Department of Agriculture Ag Athletes of the Year award, including Harper Richey from Caldwell County.
Richey was among five others recognized for their participation in high school athletics and the agriculture industry.
The group qualified for the scholarship through extracurricular activities, but also their desire to continue their education after high school at a two- or four-year institution or trade school. The scholarship has two tiers, with two $2,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships awarded.
A news release from the KDA says the scholarship was supported by the “Ag Tag” Fund, which is supported by voluntary donations made when motorists buy or renew their farm vehicle license plates. Shell adds he is proud to see the partnership provide many opportunities for the future of Kentucky’s youth.
