Focusing on flood recovery, the City of Hopkinsville issued an informational guide for those who were affected by the severe weather and for organizations offering recovery help.
According to the guide, Christian County Emergency Management is coordinating all recovery efforts, managing resources and working with affected residents. Organizations or individuals wanting to donate supplies, volunteer or provide recovery assistance can call emergency management at 270-887-6253.
Folks wanting to make monetary contributions to recovery efforts can make checks payable to the Christian County Long-Term Recovery Group and mail donations to 216 West 7th Street.
Those in need of assistance are also invited to contact emergency management and military veterans that need aid may be eligible for additional support through veteran-specific donations. Residents who have been displaced by floodwaters can seek temporary shelter at St. John Methodist Church located at 2808 South Virginia Street. The American Red Cross is operating an emergency shelter at the church.
Anyone with property damage can submit reports concerning it at hoptown.org/propertydamage. The damage reports received will go toward determining if the city qualifies for disaster recovery assistance.
Folks with flood-damaged debris are asked to make three separate piles along their curb for furniture, appliances and construction debris. Throughout the week Hopkinsville Solid Waste crews will be making rounds to pick up any debris.
Residents are also reminded to not attempt to drive around barricades and road closure signs.
The city also spotlighted additional non-local resources which are listed below directly from the informational guide.
