While the worst of the heavy rain has finally moved out of the area, flooding issues will likely continue for some time in Christian, Todd and Trigg Counties.
In an update Saturday evening, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says the risk of flooding and water across roadways remains high, and he urges folks to never drive through that standing water, especially if crews are actively close to the roadway.
Public Works Director Mike Perry says crews are working on rotating shifts as they work to keep drains clear and get appropriate road signs put up. He says if you see a High-Water sign, that means use caution moving forward, but if you see Road Closures signs, absolutely do not drive around those signs and keep going.
Now that the storms and worst of the rain has moved on, Mayor Knight says get any damage caused by the weather documented by taking pictures, so they can present it to the state to help get relief funding approved, and for your own personal insurance.
The mayor says there’s almost too many people to thank for all the work and response they’ve done in the past week, and he once again reminded citizens to remain cautious, as water will surely linger in the coming days.
