Governor issues state of emergency in face of severe weather, flooding

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has issued a state of emergency ahead a week-long event of severe weather and major flooding, particularly in western Kentucky.

Western Kentucky is under the gun for severe weather all the way through Saturday, and during that time, possibly historic flooding could occur, even without the risk of damaging winds and tornadoes. Governor Beshear is urging all Kentuckians to keep their eye on the forecast and be ready to take action if a warning is issued for your area.

The state of emergency paves the way for requesting federal aid, if needed, and activates the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center and the Kentucky National Guard, who are standing by to respond. The governor assures that we will get through this, and cautions against becoming weather fatigued, as weather will stay with us for some time.

He also implemented to the state’s price gouging laws to help stop overpricing of goods and services—consumers should report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General.
