The Christian County Colonels got a strong pitching performance from Nolan Young and some timely hitting to upset No. 2-ranked Lyon County 5-3 Tuesday in a high school baseball game at Colonel Field.
The Lyons got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning only to see the Colonels tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Johnny Lewis’ single to center field was the big for Christian County.
Lyon County edged in front 3-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning.
But Christian County answered again, this time with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Aiden Lewis’ sacrifice fly was part of a two-run fourth inning that gave the Colonels a 4-3 lead they would never relinquish.
Christian County added its final run in the bottom of the sixth as Johnny Lewis scored on a groundout by Gage Montes.
Young tossed six innings, giving up six hits and three runs before Sebastian Dazey came in and closed the door on the Lyons.
Johnny Lewis had a pair of RBI for the Colonels, who won for the fourth straight time to improve to 5-2 on the season.
The Colonels return to action Friday night at home against Madisonville-North Hopkins.
