Second-ranked Lyon County and host Hopkinsville hooked up in a pitcher’s duel in the season-opening baseball game for both teams on Monday night.
In the end, the Lyons scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and held off the Tigers 2-1.
The loss spoiled a tremendous pitching effort by the Tigers’ Andrew Mayes, who tossed six innings, allowing only four hits while striking out nine.
Eli Baker was equally impressive for the Lyons as he gave up three hits and one run, while striking out five over five innings.
Layton Lindsey had a pair of hits to lead Hoptown. Griffen Meacham had the RBI for Hoptown, which took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Hopkinsville plays host to Union County today at 6 p.m.
