A suspect was killed and a Trigg County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a pursuit that became an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon.
According to Kentucky State Police, preliminary investigation has revealed that KSP troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 42-mile-marker of I-24 eastbound at approximately noon, but instead of the stopping, the vehicle fled.
The pursuit continued until approximately the 65-mile-marker, when the vehicle wrecked out and the suspect fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the suspect—identified as 21-year-old Jermaine Terrell Jackson Jr. of Missouri—allegedly began firing at deputies, striking a deputy.
Three Trigg deputies returned fire with their duty weapons, striking Jackson, who would be pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deputy that was hit was transported in a local hospital, where he is in stable condition. No other injuries were reported in the incident. The deputy’s name has not been released.
Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including Trigg County Sheriff’s, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkinsville Police Department and Kentucky State Police. KSP will be investigating the incident.
