As gardening season approaches, Christian Heights United Methodist Church is inviting folks to join its new community garden.
Christian Heights Lay Pastor Donna Williams says 10 feet by 3 feet gardening plots and garden tubs are available and on April 5 at 9 a.m. interested gardeners are welcome to come to the church and register for a spot.
Williams says she looks forward to getting the community involved and growing vegetables to feed the community. Gardeners can keep what they grow, donate it or sell it. Williams says members of the church are interested in possibly hosting a farmer’s market to sell what is grown.
Williams also hosts Breaking Bread Community Dinner Church through the Aaron McNeil House. The dinner church provides weekly meals to address food insecurity and she hopes the garden can do the same.
Gardeners will be responsible for soil prep, obtaining seeds and planting. For those who may be gardening novices, Williams says they will have gardening consultants from Brushy Fork Creek and local Amish communities to help with planting.
Those interested in reserving a gardening plot can email garden@christianheightsumc.org or call 270-886-2597.
