Christian County Public Schools are reminding parents of upcoming kindergartners that the exception process and deadline is fast approaching.
In the state of Kentucky, a child must be five-years-old on or before August 1 to attend the 2025-2026 kindergarten class. However, the Christian County School Board enacted a policy that allows for a student-family to request consideration to enroll in the class if their student turns five shortly after August 1, using a petition process.
For those interested in early enrollment for their student, they must request a petition for early enrollment from the guidance counsel from the school the student would be attending and have it filled out and turned in by March 31.
From there, that petition is reviewed by the CCPS Elementary Instructional Supervisor and the parent will be contacted to take part in the Brigance Assessment, which will determine the child’s readiness for school.
From there, the parents will be informed if the district approves or denies the petition.
Anyone looking for further information on the process can contact Director of Pupil Personnel Melanie Barrett at 270-887-7005.
