Cayce Days starts March 21 at the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville

The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County are gearing up for the return of their Cayce Day events—celebrating one of Hopkinsville’s most famous natives—and they’ll offer a new birthday celebration.

On March 18, folks are invited to help celebrate Edgar Cayce’s birthday by playing a fast-paced game of Pit, the card game that was invented by Cayce himself.  First sold in 1904, Pit allows players to imitate the commodities agricultural traders of the Chicago Board of Trade that was known as “The Pit.”

Cayce invented the card game while he was living in Bowling Green as a fun and educational way to teach those playing about how stock markets work. The game went national after being picked up by the Parker Brothers game company, although Cayce only received a dozen or so decks of the cards produced by the company, and a grand total of $6 for his efforts.

It will take place Tuesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. at the Pennyroyal Area Museum.

Then starting on March 21, Cayce Days returns to the Museum in a partnership with Milkweed Health & Harmony Emporium and Visit Hopkinsville. Attendees will be able to hear from Jessica Newell, the Director of the Edger Cayce Foundation, and Mallory Key, a professional astrologer.

Learning sessions will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings. Saturday afternoon will feature a variety of activities that connect Edgar Cayce’s story to his hometown. For a complete schedule, visit the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County website.

Registration is required for all learning sessions—register for the full weekend for $75 or $65 for Museum Members, or for individual sessions for $20 each, online or by calling the museum at 270-887-4270.
