The Christian County Colonels and Hopkinsville Tigers learned their Region 2 Basketball Tournament opponents Saturday morning as the draw for next week’s event was held Saturday morning via a Zoom meeting with region athletic directors and coaches.
The tournament will get underway at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School.
District 7 champion Madisonville (15-12) will play host to District 5 runner-up Livingston Central (9-20) in the opening game. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
In the second game on Wednesday night around 7:30 p.m., District 8 champion Christian County (8-22) will take on District 6 runner-up Union County (15-10). The Colonels and Braves did not meet during the regular season. Airtime for the F&M Bank Pregame Show will be around 7:30 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
On Thursday night, the first quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. will feature tournament favorite and District 6 champion Henderson County (22-6) against District 8 runner-up Hopkinsville (15-15). The Colonels routed the Tigers 83-56 during the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic in December. Airtime for the F&M Bank Pregame Show will be at 5:45 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
The second game on Thursday, which is set for 7:30 p.m., will feature District 5 and defending three-time region champion Lyon County (24-7) against District 7 runner-up Dawson Springs (17-15). The Lyons blew out the Panthers 107-65 on Feb. 10.
Because the Boys’ Sweet 16 State Tournament has been delayed to the end of the month because Rupp Arena’s NCAA Tournament obligations, the semfinals and finals for the boys’ Region 2 tournament have been spaced out over two weeks. The semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11. The finals are set for Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
All tickets will be $10 cash only at the door. Children ages 5-and-under are admitted free. All fans attending are asked to use the entrance through the new part of the building and not the traditional entrance to the gym.
Should there be inclement weather and the tournament games be postponed, they would be delayed by one day.
