Lady Tigers cruise past Lady Falcons into district finals

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers didn’t want to give Fort Campbell a chance for its first Girls’ District 8 Basketball Tournament win in 20 years, racing out to a big lead in the first quarter on the way to a 74-37 semifinal win Monday night in Tiger Gym.

Alicia Davis and LaShanti Wilson combined to score 41 points and Hoptown advanced to Thursday night’s championship game at 6 p.m. against top seed Christian County.

The Lady Tigers led 26-8 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 48-16 at halftime.

The lone bright spots for the Lady Falcons were Rosella Rajj and Amari Grimsley who finished the game with 20 and 10 points, respectively.

Fort Campbell (8-12) has not won a girls’ District 8 basketball tournament since 2005 when the Lady Falcons defeated Hopkinsville 34-30.

Hoptown (10-11) wasn’t going to let that happen again Monday night as it padded its lead to 62-24 after three quarters and subbed frequently in the final period.

The Lady Tigers and Christian County have met twice this season with the Lady Colonels winning 68-29 and 57-37. Thursday’s game will tip off at 6 p.m. with airtime at 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
