A little taste of Nashville country music is coming Hopkinsville as the descendants of two music legends are set to put on a show at the Alhambra Theatre on Saturday.
Pennyroyal Arts Council Executive Director, Margaret Prim appeared on WHOP Radio on Monday to invite the community to the fifth show in their live series, Nashville Legacy featuring pianist Jason Coleman and guitarist Meagan Taylor.
Coleman is the grandson of Floyd Cramer an American pianist who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cramer is credited for developing popular piano playing styles in country music.
Taylor is the great-niece of Chet Atkins a country artist who is also an inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Atkins is credited for helping create a country music subgenre called the Nashville sound that took notes from pop music at the time.
Prim says Coleman and Taylor will bring some of that Nashville sound to the Alhambra and share stories about Cramer and Atkins.
The show is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at pennyroyalarts.org.
March is also Youth Art Month and Prim says they are planning on turning the Alhambra into an art museum spotlighting student art.
The Alhambra is a historic building and the ceiling currently needs some maintenance. Prim says they have a plan and are working with county government to repair parts of the theatre’s ceiling.
