Joy Closet invites fathers, daughters to annual nerf gun wars

Joy Closet’s fourth annual Mother and Son Nerf Wars is set for March, and for the first time ever fathers and daughters are being invited to compete.

Joy Closet is a Hopkinsville based nonprofit focused on supporting foster care children and families in the Pennyrile region by providing them with need-based donated items such as clothing, toys and sanitary products.

Nonprofit Executive Director, Heather Gray made the grand announcement about the nerf wars expansion on WHOP Radio Wednesday morning.

Gray says after four years of hosting the nerf wars, she has always been asked to include fathers and daughters. The nerf wars are split into to time slots, but Gray says no tickets have been sold so far, the 6 p.m. slot so she decided to invite fathers and daughters to join the fun.

Funds from the nerf wars will go toward Joy Closet’s mission and the construction of the Hope House, which will house children who were removed from their homes instead of placing them at a Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) office. The Hope House will have resources for children and a space for DCBS workers to find placements for them

Along with expansion of the nerf wars, Gray says Joy Closet is expanding into Hopkins County with another consignment store.

Tickets are on sale at joycloset.org. The nerf wars is set for March 2 at St. John Methodist Church. The mother and son war is set for 3:30 p.m. and the father and daughter war is set for 6 p.m.
