It was a tale of two halves for the Christian County Colonels Thursday night in their boys’ high school basketball game against McCracken County in Lyle Dunbar Gym.
After limiting the Mustangs to only 17 points in the first half, the Colonels gave up 22 in the third quarter and were outscored 39-21 in the second half on the way to a 56-45 loss.
The loss drops the Colonels to 5-19 on the season and was the third straight defeat and seventh in their last eight games.
Christian County came out hot as Na’Darien Rowe hit three straight 3-pointers on the way to a 9-0 lead. The Colonels led 12-5 after one quarter.
However, the Mustangs (13-10) went to varying zone defenses and slowed down Christian County in the second quarter. The Colonels were holding to a 24-17 halftime advantage.
Turnovers and missed opportunities by Christian County helped McCracken quickly slice into the lead as the third quarter began. The Mustangs took their first lead at 28-27 with 5:03 left in the period.
McCracken County led 39-35 entering the final quarter and led by the play of senior guard Dylan Jackson, pushed their lead to as much as 12 in the final period.
Jackson finished the night with 18 points with 14 of those in the second half. Garrett Miller added 10 for McCracken.
The Colonels were led by Rahsean Stevenson with 12 points. Rowe finished with 11 and Kam Williams had 10 for Christian County, which returns to action tonight at home against University Heights Academy. The District 8 contest is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. with the F&M Bank Pregame Show at 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
