An interstate rehabilitation project is set to begin in Madisonville this week, with motorists asked to be aware of changing lane restrictions and construction.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, this $10 million roadway rehabilitation project will take place along an approximately four and a half-mile long section of Interstate 69, starting Wednesday.
Starting Wednesday, the first phase of the project will include the fast lane of the interstate being blocked in each direction from Island Ford Road to just south of the KY 2657 overpass. This will allow for the pouring of new crash safety walls around the bridge piers at the U.S. 41 and KY 281 overpasses. Crews will also replace damaged guardrails in that area.
Phase one is expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting, and lane restrictions will last throughout the length of the project.
The project will also repair the northbound ramp at Exit 114, near James Madison Middle School.
The entirety of the project is set to be completed by November.
