Wheat specialists shared their expectations for the upcoming wheat growing season and provided insight for local farmers at the 2025 Winter Wheat Meeting on Tuesday.
University of Kentucky Grain Crops Group Coordinator Colette Laurent says the meeting is a great tool for the grain industry to improve across the board.
Laurent says the purpose of the meeting is to give wheat growers an opportunity to ask questions about issues they are facing in production and help shift the focus of future research.
Director of Grain and Forage Center of Excellence and Extension Professor Chad Lee was also in attendance and says the state of wheat is looking good for the upcoming growing season, but it’s still too early to be sure. Wheat growing acres may be down in the state, but positive crop ratings make up for it.
Overall, UK specialists are optimistic about the 2025 wheat growing season.
