Bowling teams from Christian County and Hopkinsville high schools will be participating in the Region 1 Bowling Tournament today and Saturday at Cardinal Lanes in Paducah.
Boys’ singles will begin at 8 a.m. today. Those representing Christian County include Aiden Lewis, Peyton Hilton, Christian Lane, and Michael DeArmond. For Hopkinsville, the boys’ singles bowlers include Ethan Brake, Kyle Bauman, Chaison White, and Brent Rivers.
Girls’ Singles also begins today at 3 p.m. Jasmine Beckwith represents Christian County and Illiana Apolo-Ramirez is the lone Lady Tiger in the tournament.
Each bowler will roll three qualifying games and the field will be cut to the top eight scores. The top eight will roll an additional two games to reach the top four, who will bowl a step ladder format to crown the regional champion. The top four bowlers qualify for the state tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 10-12 in Louisville.
The Unified division will bowl at 1 p.m. today. Each Unified doubles team bowls two baker games for a qualifying score and the teams will be seeded by those scores. They will bowl one baker match continuing as long as they keep winning. The top two doubles teams qualify for the state competition.
The Colonels have one team competing in this division. Kane DeGuilio and Christian Lane make up that team.
The boys’ team competition begins at 8 a.m. Saturday. Each team has eight bowlers, four on each lane. They will bowl one compete game per bowler with the lowest score on each lane dropping off and will not be counted for the overall team score. The top six scores will be totaled together and counted as a qualifying total, which will then be seeded. They will bowl baker matches to see who keeps advancing. Teams have to win two out of three games in the bakers’ match to advance with the top two teams advancing to state competition.
Lewis, Hilton, Lane, DeArmond, Jordan Morton, DeGuillo, Paul Grace, and Jaxson Hall are representing the Colonels. Hopkinsville’s team includes Brake, Bauman, White, Rivers, Renegade Watkins, Zach Simmons, Xavier Smiley, and Apolo-Ramirez.
