Area players among state’s basketball leaders

The top two high school basketball scorers in the state of Kentucky reside in Hopkinsville.

According to statistics released this week by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, Heritage Christian Academy senior guard Jason Leek is the top scorer in the state, averaging 36.3 points per game.

University Heights Academy junior guard Tylin George is the second-leading scorer in the state, averaging 31.9 points per game.

Leek also is 11th in 3-pointers per game with 3.4 per game.

George is 17th in free throw percentage at 85.1 percent.

Meanwhile, Christian County sophomore Rahsean Stevenson is 30th in field goal percentage at 64 percent. Hopkinsville’s James Bradley Jr., is 42nd at 62 percent.

Hoptown’s Layton Giltner is 39th in rebounding at 9.7 per game and the Tigers are 12th as a team in rebounding at 35.1 per game.

Hopkinsville’s DeAvery Ramey is 35th in free throw percentage, connecting on 81.6 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.

The Tigers’ Jonathan Hart is 27th in 3-pointers per game with three per game.

UHA is among the top free throw shooting teams in the state, connecting on 70.4 percent of their shots from the stripe.

Among the girls’ statistical leaders, the Christian County Lady Colonels are third in the state in team rebounding at 38.6 per game. Hopkinsville is 46th with 33 per game.

Individually, Lady Colonels senior Ne’Vaeh Day is 17th in rebounds at 10.8 per game.

Christian County junior guard Anaysia Bagwell ranks 21st in 3-point field goals with 2.6 per game.
