A Clarksville woman is facing charges of DUI and vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision early Friday morning.
According to the Oak Grove Police Department report, officers responded to the 12000 block of Fort Campbell Boulevard just after 1 a.m. for reports that a man had been struck by a vehicle. Christian County Deputy Coroner Tim Fleming pronounced the victim, identified as 39-year-old Samuel Harlon Whitworth, deceased at the scene.
Investigation revealed that 41-year-old Rita Justice of Clarksville was driving a vehicle north bound on the boulevard, passing the green light when she struck Whitworth with the vehicle. Upon contact with Justice, officers reportedly smelled alcohol on her person and she preformed poorly on field sobriety tests.
Justice reportedly told officers that she was the one driving when the collision occurred and she had been unaware of what had been struck until after she stopped.
She was arrested and charged with first-offense DUI and vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol.
