Governor Andy Beshear announces a $6 million state investment to improve Kentucky’s rail and riverports.
According to a news release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the investment will increase efficiency, connectivity, and economic opportunity in the state. The new funding grants $1 million dollars to two river ports and $5 million to four railroad projects.
Along with this investment the Kentucky Industrial Access and Safety Improvement awardees $7.5 million each year to improvement and rehabilitation of rail facilities. Logan Aluminum Inc., located in Logan County received $1.5 million of the grant to extend their Northwest and Southwest Yard.
Beshear says, “Kentucky’s economic winning streak requires continued investment in safe and efficient infrastructure that serve current and future businesses across all modes of transportation. These rail and riverport investments help support the industries that boost our communities and economy and make sure that they have the resources to thrive in Our New Kentucky Home.”
