The Hopkinsville Police Department is putting out a warning about another phone scam rolling around the community.
In this scam, a person claiming to be a “Sergeant Jones” with the Hopkinsville Police Department is calling individuals and telling them that they missed jury duty and now need to pay a fine. They threaten that if that fine is not paid, a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
Officials with the police department want to assure that they will never call to tell you that you missed jury duty, and they do not ask people to pay fines over the phone—they in fact do not even have a Sgt. Jones.
They are urging citizens to just hang up the phone if you receive this call, and never give out personal information over the phone. This is a well-known scam call, so if you’re ever in doubt about the call, hang up and call the agency back directly on their own number.
