Sen. Richardson talks first week in Frankfort, focus for the session

Newly elected and sworn-in Senator Craig Richardson says he still has a lot to learn following the first week of the legislative session, but he’s ready to hit the ground running.

Richardson fills the seat left vacant when longtime former Senator Whitney Westerfield chose not to seek re-election, which means Richardson represents Christian County, Muhlenberg County and Caldwell County.  After being sworn-in before session on January 7, he says he immediately got to work on absorbing as much information as he could.

And he’s filed his first bill—it deals with private property involving swimming pools, and Richardson says it looks to limit government interference.

He says when legislators return to Frankfort in February to get the rest of the 2025 session of the Kentucky General Assembly underway, he will work to remain focused on what is most important to him and his constituents and get work done.

As he is in the Senate, one of the very first things he will have to consider upon return in February will be voting to lower the income tax down to 3.5 percent and pass House Bill 1 from the Senate, and send it to the governor for his signature. Richardson is fairly confident it will pass and he does support lowering that tax in the Commonwealth.
