Kentucky State Police have released details on an officer involved shooting in Owensboro following a domestic disturbance in December.
According to a news release, officers with the Owensboro Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence on Orchard Street where 21-year-old Marcello C. Johnson Jr. of Owensboro was allegedly brandishing a knife in his sister’s home. He was allegedly threatening both his sister and her children.
Johnson was commanded several times by officers to drop the knife and when he reportedly failed to comply is when Officer Michael Cory Johnson and Sergeant Anthony Williams discharged their agency weapons, striking the suspect.
Johnson was taken to Owensboro Health for treatment of injuries and has since been release. He is charges with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, menacing and fourth-degree assault.
Kentucky State Police is continuing to investigate the incident.
