Zamarius Humphries and Jacquavian Spencer received final sentencing in Christian Circuit Court on Wednesday for their involvement in the 2021 Princess Theatre shooting.
Humphries reportedly exchanged gunfire with Jaquavian Spencer and was shot and injured. During the gunfire Gteria Acree was injured and Aniyah Collins was murdered. Deovion Day was originally charged for injuring Acree and killing Collins but was found not guilty by a jury in December 2024.
Humphries was set to be sentenced on January 2 but it was postponed while he considered motioning to withdraw from his guilty plea agreement. On Wednesday he did not withdraw from the agreement.
Before they were sentenced, both men and their defense attorneys made arguments for probation. Humphries says he is ready to put all of this behind him and move on, but Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy thought otherwise. Leamy says Humphries was responsible for starting the gunfire and probating him would depreciate the severity of the crime.
Spencer says he has spent almost of half of his life being involved in the justice system and he wants a chance to move on.
In response to Spencer, Leamy echoed the same opinion she had regarding Humphries. She says Spencer was not supposed to be in possession of a gun and as he returned fire at Humphries one bystander was injured and another was killed.
Christian Circuit Judge Andrew Self agreed with Leamy and sentenced both men to jail for seven years for possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and wanton endangerment.
