George goes for 50, leads UHA past Storm

University Heights Academy junior guard Tylin George had one of the school’s best performances ever Monday night and powered the Blazers to a 92-90 basketball win over host Hopkins County Central.

George scored 50 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the short-handed Blazers improved to 4-9 on the season.

The 6-foot-4 guard scored 16 in the first quarter as UHA raced out to a 22-10 lead. However, the Storm outscored the Blazers 35-18 in the second quarter and took a 45-40 halftime advantage.

George poured in 20 points including three straight 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Blazers took a 71-66 lead into the fourth quarter.

The junior guard stayed hot in the final period with 14 points including hitting three late free throws to seal the 92-90 win.

It is believed that George’s 50 points is one point shy of the school record set by KyKy Tandy. He ended the game 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

Jaiden Daniels added 15 points and 10 rebound for the Blazers. Seniors Tre Bell and Elijah Walton did not play in the game due to injuries.

Hopkins Central fell to 6-6 on the season and were led by Davonyae Butcher’s 37 points.

UHA returns to action Thursday night at Hopkinsville in a 6 p.m. game. The F&M Bank pregame will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
