Tigers claim district win over Fort Campbell

The Hopkinsville Tigers got off to a quick start and never looked back on the way to an 84-32 rout of visiting Fort Campbell in a boys’ District 8 basketball game Saturday afternoon.

Hoptown (4-9) earned its first district win of the season by jumping out to a 24-6 first quarter lead. The Tigers pushed the lead to 44-17 at the break.

Jonathan Hart and Layton Giltner each had 10 points in the first half for Hopkinsville.

It was more of the same in the third quarter as the Tigers outscored the Falcons 28-11 for a 72-28 lead.

Four Tigers reached double figures, led by Jonovan Leavell’s 16 points. Jonathan Hart and James Bradley Jr., each had 15, and Giltner added 12.

Fort Campbell fell to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in district play. The Falcons were led by Tyreek Anthony’s 15 points.

Hoptown is back in action Friday at home against Christian County.
