Owensboro rallied from an early seven-point deficit and pulled away from Hopkinsville 87-74 in a boys’ high school basketball game Friday afternoon at Tiger Gym.
Hoptown led 19-12 but the Red Devils rallied and took a two-point lead 25-23 at the end of the first quarter.
Owensboro continued to pressure the Tigers and pushed the lead out to 48-36 at halftime.
In the second half, Owensboro (5-7) methodically pushed its lead to as much as 22 before a late spurt by the Tigers cut the final score to 87-74.
James Bradley Jr. led Hopkinsville with 22 points before fouling out late in the game. Jonathan Hart had 15 points and Jonovan Leavell added 14 for the Tigers. DeAvery Ramey was the fourth Hoptown player in double figures with 11.
The Red Devils got a big game from Keaton Hughes, who scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the first half. Michael Acton had 22 points. Will Hume and Keylin Payton had 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Hoptown slips to 3-8 on the season and is back in action Saturday as it opens District 8 play at home against Fort Campbell at 1 p.m. Airtime for the game is 12:45 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
