As winter continues, the Tennessee Valley Authority is sharing tips for staying warm while conserving energy.
Winter is typically a time where energy providers see a rise in power demands. During a cold snap in January 2024 the TVA experienced a record-breaking energy production peak.
For additional heat, TVA Spokesperson Adam May says residents can open their window blinds and curtains during the day and rely on sunlight for natural heat. Then after the sunsets, close those blinds and curtains for an extra layer of insulation.
Ceiling fans can also rotate clockwise which pushes warm air down where it can be felt. To maximize the capabilities of home heaters, May advises for folks to ensure that none of their vents are closed or blocked by furniture.
May also emphasized the importance of staying warm through safe means. He says ovens should not be used as a heating source because they are inefficient and it could be dangerous. More energy conservation tips are available at energyright.com.
