Local legislators talk priorities heading into 2025 General Assembly session

With Christmas behind us and 2025 looming ahead, eyes are turning towards the upcoming short session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

Legislators will converge on Frankfort on January 7 and when they do, they’ll have a lot of topics, bills and other matters to consider during the 30-day session. That includes local legislators, who have some priorities of their own they want to address during the session.

Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke says he has no doubt that one of the first things that will come up for a vote will be to lower the income tax a little further down to 3.5 percent, and then he has several matters he intends to pursue.

Representative Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville says he will once again make his push for making military pensions tax exempt in the state, to get rubber put on wagon and buggy wheels—and he would like to see something happen to address the housing issues in the Commonwealth.

Incoming Senator Craig Richardson is ready to hit the ground running for his first ever session representing the Third District, and he intends to focus on healthcare and economic development while building those vital relationships in Frankfort.

You can hear more about their goals and priorities heading into the General Assembly this Sunday during Don’t Be Afraid to Say It, which airs at approximately 9 a.m. on 98.7 Lite FM.
