Human Rights Commission invites community to its MLK Day March

Hopkinsville-Christian County Human Rights Commission Executive Director, Raychel Farmer recently appeared on WHOP and shared what they have planned for the coming year.

The commission is starting off the new year with its Martin Luther King Jr. march on January 20. Farmer says the time of the march has been pushed back to 10 a.m. that day and Nicole Poindexter, the Full-Service Community Schools Director for the Christian County Public School System, will be the keynote speaker.

The march will start at Freedom Elementary School and conclude at Hopkinsville Community College. Farmer says the school with the most the students at the march will receive a special prize, bragging rights and a traveling trophy.

Farmer says they will be bringing back their MLK Day Art Contest, but this time they will be hosting a ceremony to announce the winners. An awards ceremony for the winners will be hosted at the Alhambra Theatre following the march.

Following the awards ceremony, the Fisk Jubilee Singers will be performing at the theater. Farmer says the commission has 50 free tickets to the show for students.
