A Hopkinsville woman is facing numerous charges after a one-year-old child allegedly overdosed on drugs early Monday morning.
According to the report from the Hopkinsville Police Department, officers responded to Jennie Stuart Medical Center around 2 a.m. Monday morning for reports of a child that had overdosed. Upon arrival, medical staff told officers the child had arrived unresponsive, and they had given the baby Narcan. The one-year-old became responsive but was still in critical condition.
The individual who brought the child to the hospital stated she had been at a friend’s house washing clothes when she found 29-year-old Danielle Smith of Hopkinsville passed out at a sink where she had been giving the child a bath. A piece of foil that was used for smoking suspected fentanyl was in the sink.
The baby was reportedly gasping for breath and her eyes had rolled back into her head, which is when she was rushed to the hospital.
A search of the residence allegedly revealed the suspect foil, along with methamphetamine and several suboxone strips.
Smith was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The child is listed as being in stable condition.
