The Christian County Lady Colonels couldn’t wait to get the 2024-25 basketball season started. Poor Clarksville Kenwood found out how much they wanted it Friday night as the Lady Colonels smothered the Lady Knights 74-49 in Clarksville.
The Christian County pressure defense made it difficult not only for Kenwood (1-3) to get the ball down the court, but even getting the ball inbounds was troubling.
Na’Vaeh Day blocked numerous shots and put up 14 of her 24 points in the first half as Christian County (1-0) raced out to a 39-23 halftime lead.
The Lady Knights never got close in the second half as the Lady Colonels’ relentless pressure smothered the Kenwood guards.
Anaysia Bagwell added 22 points and Lazarie Daniel had 17, including four 3-pointers on the night.
In addition, Christian County got good minutes from reserves Carliah Hobson, Carlie Hobson, DeEbony Anderson, and Adreyona Smith.
Yazmine Pearson, the Lady Knights’ star center, was held to only two points in the first half and spent much of the first 16 minutes on the bench with foul trouble. She ended the night with 10 points. Sarai Townsend led Kenwood with 14 points. Zakia White added 10.
The only real question after the game was the actual score. Two scorekeepers had Christian County with 76 points, but the official book had only 74.
The Colonels return to play Saturday at Warren Central at noon when they take on East Nashville in the Faith Harbor Kentucky/Tennessee Challenge.
