Turnovers plagued the Christian County Colonels again Friday night as they fell to 0-3 on the season with a 79-47 high school basketball loss at Clarksville Kenwood.
The Knights raced out to a 14-5 lead and led by double figures midway through the second quarter as the Colonels’ offense struggled to handle the Kenwood pressure defense.
However, behind the play of Darren Bigbee and Zyon Wharton, the Colonels clawed by to within 28-21 at halftime.
Unfortunately, the shooting went cold for the Colonels and the Knights (2-2) began to get hot from long range. The Knights outscored Christian County 25-8 in the third quarter. Christian Taylor hit two 3-pointers and Marquise Ander added two more. Zakarious Hinton also found the range with a couple of long-range shots to push the Knights’ lead to 53-29 after three quarters.
Foul trouble also plagued the Colonels, who saw starting guard Josh Bridges go to the bench with three early fouls. Starting center Rahsean Stevenson also battled foul trouble all night.
Bigbee was the lone Colonel in double figures with 12 points. Wharton finished with nine.
Kenwood ended the night with nine made 3-pointers to only three for the Colonels. Christian Taylor scored 12 points to lead the Knights and Jaylin Hill added 10.
The Colonels return to play Tuesday night in a girls’/boys’ doubleheader at Madisonville-North Hopkins. The girls’ game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the F&M Bank Pre-game Show airing at 5:45 p.m. The boys’ game will follow around 7:30 p.m.
