Local fire department hosts Christmas for Kids campaign for families in need

The Hopkinsville Fire Department is inviting the community to support their annual Christmas for Kids campaign to ensure that local families in need wake up to presents under the tree on Christmas day.

Hopkinsville Fire Captain, Payton Rogers says they have been partnering with the Hopkinsville Salvation Army for this campaign for over 20 years. The Salvation Army selects 50 families that need help with Christmas gifts and Rogers says folks can sponsor gifts for those children.

Sponsors will receive wish lists for however many children they wish to support and shop for them. Rogers says many wish lists include items that a lot of people take for granted such as shoes, socks and coats.

Monetary donations are also being accepted and will go toward gifts. Rogers says the items bought by sponsors are often the only gifts some of these children will receive for Christmas and he appreciates the community support.

Those interested in being a sponsor can contact Deputy Chief Chad Sivills at csivills@h-ky.us or at 270-890-1450.
