Police arrest man for driving stolen car, hit-and-run wreck

Hopkinsville Police arrested 26-year-old, Damion Mefford of Cadiz after he was reportedly driving a stolen car, involved in a hit-and-run accident and assaulted two officers on Wednesday.

According to a report, the Hopkinsville Police Department was contacted to the Elizabethtown Police Department concerning a stolen car. The car was reportedly stolen out of Elizabethtown and was seen traveling through Hopkinsville via flock cameras.  

After being notified about the stolen car, it was reportedly involved in an accident near the intersection of Cadiz Road and Eagle Way Bypass and fled the scene. Officers located the car involved in the wreck in front of Green Hill Memorial Gardens and made contact with Mefford the driver.

Mefford also reportedly had an arrest warrant out of Trigg County so he was taken into custody. As officers attempted to place Mefford in the back of the cruiser he reportedly became irate and started yelling at officers. Mefford allegedly headbutted the cruiser’s rear passenger window resulting in over $500 of damages.

Mefford injured himself headbutting the window so officers transported him to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, he reportedly continued to be irate and spat on two officers.

Mefford was charged with receiving stolen property, driving on a DUI suspended license, driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident without rendering assistance, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree assault of an officer and second-degree criminal mischief.
