HCC receives grant to focus on helping students achieve their credentials

The Hopkinsville Community College Foundation has received a $5,000 grant to help more students achieve the credentials they are striving for.

According to a news release, the grant came from the Julian-Carver Family Foundation out of Versailles, Kentucky—the funds are set to support HCC’S PATH to Completion project, helping nonactive students achieve their credential. The project will analyze the challenges facing inactive HCC students who have nearly completed their credentials, re-engage with those students, and provide need-based support to help the student earn their credential.

The bulk of grant funds are designated to employ a temporary college navigator who will contact inactive students who are at least 75 percent to completion of their credential. Then, the navigator will help connect these near-completers with appropriate student services and re-enroll them in their program of study.

HCC Vice President for Student Affairs Angel Prescott says, “We are committed to providing every student with the support and resources they need to be successful at HCC. These grant funds will help us reach a specified group of inactive students and give them specialized service so they can complete their credential.”
