The Jennie Stuart Health Foundation held a reception Monday evening to announce the creation of the Bert and Nell Dorris Lilly Cancer Care Endowment.
According to a news release, the estate gift was a generous bequest in the amount of $650,000 and Jennie Stuart Health CEO Eric Lee and Foundation Director Tracey Clark discussed with the family possible uses for the heart-felt donation.
Clark says, “Knowing their intention was to support Jennie Stuart Medical Center for cancer care, we asked for their blessing to utilize a portion as the lead gift for our E.C. Green Cancer Care Capital Campaign. We also asked if they would support the remaining portion to be used in establishing an endowment for cancer care here at the hospital. They were so gracious and supportive of both suggestions, indicating that Bert and Nell would be pleased, which is always our hope.”
So, the Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Bet and Nell Dorris Cancer Care Endowment in the amount of $500,000. But then, the estate of Gayle Mosley—the nephew to Bert and Nell—made another gift in the amount of $400,000, bringing the endowment total up to $900,000.
Bert and Nell Dorris, along with Mr. Gayle Mosley, will be permanently recognized in the Dr. Edward Stuart Legacy Society, which honors those who remember the Jennie Stuart Health Foundation in their estate planning.
Jennie Stuart Hospital itself was established with a gift made by Dr. Stuart in memory of his beloved wife, Jennie.
