Police arrest man for reportedly shooting a victim during an argument

Hopkinsville Police arrested 60-year-old William Merritt of Hopkinsville on Thursday after he reportedly shot a victim following an argument.

According to a report from police, the victim went to the hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound to their left leg. The shooting occurred after the victim and Merritt got into an argument which reportedly led to Merritt retrieving a firearm and shooting at the victim.

 Merritt is charged with first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
