The high school swimming season began Saturday with the Rick Cohn Invitational at Hopkinsville High School.
Muhlenberg County won the girls’ championship with 72 points, followed by Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Fort Campbell was fifth and Hopkinsville finished eighth.
Hoptown was led by Saralynn Major, who finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 30.67. Her teammate Kaydon Coats took 14th in 33.14. Evelyn Bangart and Kaley Bangart finished 17th and 19th, respectively in 34.17 and 34.36. Payton Trapp was 32nd in 39.89.
Major also was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers in the 100-yard freestyle. She finished 11th in 1:08.78. Kaley Bangart was 13th (1:09.88) and Coates was 15th (1:14.87). Evelyn Bangart was 16th in 1:16.46. Trapp took 30th in 1:30.83.
The Hopkinsville “A” 200-yard freestyle relay team took fifth place in 2:12.19 while the “B” team was 11th in 2:45.40.
Hoptown’s 400-yard freestyle team was seventh in 4:56.49 and the “B” team was 11th in 6:32.69.
In the 100-yard backstroke, the Lady Tigers’ Madelin Macario finished 16th in 1:48.48.
In the boys’ meet, Bowling Green swam away with a win with 116 points, followed by Muhlenberg County.
In the combined team scores, Bowling Green captured the win with 164, followed by Muhlenberg County (145) and Madisonville with 81.
Hopkinsville took ninth.
