Double-murder suspect Bobby Spikes has new attorneys and complicity to murder suspect Kendall Spikes was arraigned in Christian Circuit Court Friday morning, where trial dates, motions and evidence were all discussed.
Two hearing were held, one for Bobby Spikes and the other for Kendal Spikes, starting with Bobby, who was joined by two new attorneys, public defenders Jason McGee and Haley Powell, alongside special prosecutor Blake Chambers. Chambers made a motion to continue the trial date—which had been previously set to start this month—citing the fact that there are now new attorneys in this case, and the additional matter of Kendall Spikes to consider.
Judge John Atkins agreed, continuing the trial and then immediately setting a new trial date of June 16. There were several other motions to consider, including a motion to consolidate the two cases of the Spikes from the Commonwealth, and a response motion to sever those cases from the defense. Judge Atkins felt it would be wise to give all parties time to consider the arguments for those motions, and set a separate hearing date.
Evidence concerning phone records and contents was discussed, with Chambers saying he will make sure to give all evidence to defense attorney Sands Chewing, who is representing Kendall Spikes. Additional information extraction is set to take place on a second cell-phone.
Bobby Spikes is charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Stanley Bussell and Candace Marcel both of Hopkinsville in December of 2021.
Then, Kendall Spikes was officially arraigned for the charges of complicity to murder, complicity to kidnapping, complicity to tampering with evidence and first-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension.
A hearing for a bond motion to be argued for Kendall Spikes was set for November 21.
Kendall Spikes is accused of aiding Bobby Spikes in the shooting death of Candance Marcell, and then of acting in complicity with Spikes to kidnap Marcel, resulting in her eventual death.
