After recognizing members of local law enforcement for recent promotions, Hopkinsville City Council approved closing a portion of East 5th Street and granted a deadline extension to a developer restoring a downtown property at their Wednesday meeting.
From the Hopkinsville Police Department, Zachary Lamblin was promoted to the rank of sergeant and Matthew Overby was promoted to the rank of captain.
Turning toward ordinances, the council approved for a section of East 5th Street, from South Clay Street to the CSX Railroad, to be closed. While reading the ordinance, City Clerk Brittany Byrum shared that around 280 feet of the street will be closed.
The council then revisited the zoning amendments for medical cannabis facilities which were approved on second reading. Cannabis processing and cultivation facilities will be established in I-2 medium industrial districts while a medical cannabis dispensary will be located in an arterial commercial district.
Along with the required zoning, no medical cannabis facility can be located within 1,000 feet of an existing school.
Turning toward municipal orders the council approved to give Rabbit’s Nest, LLC a deadline extension to December 7 to finish its restoration work at 601 South Main Street.
