The Clarksville Police Department is urging safety and awareness when it comes to motorcycles on the roadways, as wrecks involving motorcycles appears to be on the rise.
According to a news release, in the past year, Clarksville police have responded to 159 motorcycle crashes, where ten of the crashes resulted in 11 fatalities, 93 causing 103 injuries and numerous crashes resulting in property damage. A disproportionate amount of the motorcyclists involved are age 25-years-old or younger, leading to 53 injuries and nine fatalities in that age group.
The leading causes of these accidents are linked to behaviors such as distracted driving, unsafe lane changes, improper turns, failure to yield, and speeding.
Clarksville police are urging all drivers, both vehicular and motorcycle, to exercise caution for your fellow motorist by slowing down and looking twice to ensure safety for everyone on the roadway.
