Christian Fiscal Court approved a couple of bids and a resolution to further the project to bring 13 tornado shelters to the county, along with hearing reports and updates from county agencies.
First up for approval was a resolution to enter into a contract with the Pennyrile Area Development District that will allow that agency to move forward with phase one of the tornado shelter project, with was approved unanimously by magistrates. Then, magistrates approved a bid in the amount of $151,800 for four shelters to be delivered that will house communications equipment.
Finally, magistrate approved an engineering bid in the amount of $891,800, to get the design phase underway to one day make way for 13 tornado shelters to be constructed across the county.
The bulk of the project will be covered by grant funding.
Christian County Clerk Melinda Humphries gave a brief election update, urging those folks who requested mail-in absentee ballots to make sure they get those turned in—they sent out close to 1,000 ballots, but have so far only received about 300 of them back.
Early voting is set to take place October 31, and November 1 and November 2 at the James E. Bruce Convention, the Senior Citizens Center and the Walnut Street Center at the Boys and Girls Club.
Christian County Regional Animal Shelter Director Melissa Goff gave the monthly shelter report—the shelter took in 354 in the month of September, and 222 animals were either adopted or went to rescues.
In other action, magistrates approved election officers for in-house absentee voting, declaring some vehicles belonging to the Christian County Jail as surplus and a payment for the CBGD Grant for Trilogy.
