Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is gearing up for holiday themed events this month, along with the Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5K set for this weekend.
With the influx of runners and walkers set to descend on Christian County for the race, motorists need to be aware that roads will be closed to accommodate them. Roads impacted include North Main Street, Cox Mill Road, Gary Lane, Lafayette Road from Gary Lane to the Eagle Way Bypass, Alumni Avenue, Sterling Drive, Faulkner Drive, Phelps Avenue, Cherry Street, 15th Street and Bethel Street.
Rachel Sanders with Parks and Recreation says they’re expecting about 300 participants in this year’s race, and all money raised by the event will benefit the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile.
The festivities begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Then, eyes turn towards Halloween, starting with a Halloween movie night at the Thomas Street Recreation Center, where they’ll be showing Hocus Pocus. There will be food trucks, and a costume contest starting at 6 p.m., and then the movie gets underway at 7 p.m.
Then, it’s time for downtown Family Trick-Or-Treating on October 31 starting at 3:30 p.m. and Sanders says it’s sure to be a good time.
And if that’s a not enough to fill your month, the Holiday Hooplah Craft and Vendor Fair returns to the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex on October 26 starting at 9 a.m. that morning. The event is free to attend, but make sure to bring some spending money, as there will be a plethora of vendors, crafters and makers on hand, with plenty of handcrafted items up for purchase.
Over 50 vendors have donated prizes to be given out throughout the day, and there will be food trucks and others events happening on site.
