Construction is on track for the consolidated Christian County High School, at their Thursday meeting, the Christian County School Board approved several construction change orders to ensure progress continues.
Before the board dived into those change orders, they recognized Millbrooke Elementary School for being one of 66 schools across the country top achieve All-Star status on this year’s America’s Healthiest Schools list issued by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
District Health Coordinator, Megan Kidd says the school received positive recognitions in all nine health topics which include, supporting school health services; implementing wellness policies; improving nutrition and food access; bolstering physical education; enriching health education; strengthening social-emotional health and learning; promoting tobacco-free schools; promoting staff well-being and increasing family and community engagement.
Then the board received a recap from Superintendent Chris Bentzel and Assistant Superintendent Jessica Addison concerning the district’s 2024 state assessment data.
Based on the results, schools receive color-coded rankings going from red, orange, yellow, green and blue, with red being the worst and blue being the best.
This year the elementary and high schools were ranked in the yellow and the middle schools were ranked in the orange. The assessment data was made public on October 3, a more in depth look at the results is available here.
Turning toward construction of the consolidated high school, Kevin Hitchell from Alliance Corporation says construction is moving along well and might even be a little bit ahead of schedule. Hitchell says the roofing over the southern half of the school which includes the commons, auxiliary gym, agriculture academy and the engineering academy has been installed and dried.
For the high school, the board approved 11 construction change orders which collectively resulted in the school’s price tag decreasing by around $15,000. Hitchell shared that the change orders concerned a redesign to a portion of the second floor, lawn seeding and the addition of vapor barriers to the auxiliary gym’s roof
The high school’s construction is set to be completed by September 2026.
