October is Domestic Violence and Prevention Month, and Sanctuary, Inc. is inviting the community to help them spread the word with two events this week.
Appearing on WHOP Radio recently, Sanctuary Executive Director Heather Lancaster highlighted their upcoming events, starting with a proclamation and declaration of Sanctuary’s vision at Tuesday’s Hopkinsville City Council meeting. Lancaster says they’re painting the town purple this month, and they want people to be aware of the resources that are available to them or their loved ones who are victims of domestic violence.
Even better, they’d like to stop the violence before it even starts by spreading awareness and education to citizens of all ages—Lancaster says 1 in 3 individuals will be affected by domestic violence.
On Thursday, October 17, there will be Tea and Talk: Explore Healing Paths at Milkweed Health and Harmony Emporium in Hopkinsville, starting at 5:30 p.m. and Lancaster says it’s a comfortable place to learn more about Sanctuary’s services.
People are invited to wear the color purple on Wednesdays throughout the month of October to show support for bringing a stop to domestic violence. Then, on October 22 they’ll host a self-care training course titled “Celebrate Me: An Intro to Self-Care” at 201 East Main Street in Elkton starting at 6 p.m.
Lancaster says self-care is important for everyone, but especially for those who struggle with trauma and anxiety, and this program will help pave the way for more positive self-care.
